FAQ
How do I know if I need a hearing test? One easy way, is our free online hearing screener, get a baseline by clicking here. You should schedule a hearing test if you frequently ask people to repeat themselves, have difficulty understanding conversations in noisy places, need to turn the TV or radio volume up to a level others find too loud, or experience ringing (tinnitus) or a feeling of fullness in your ears. Adults over 50 should generally have their hearing checked at least every few years, even without noticeable symptoms.
What happens during a hearing test? The test typically begins with Dr. Mandi Solat, our audiologist, reviewing your medical history and lifestyle. They will then perform a physical examination of your ears. The main part of the test involves pure-tone and speech testing in a soundproof booth to measure the quietest sounds you can hear at different pitches, and how well you understand words. On our way out enjoy a sweet snack, or a cup of coffee or tea! The entire process usually takes about 30 minutes to an hour. Dr. Solat is happy to answer any of your questions, contact her at Hello@Hear2day.com.
What do my hearing test results mean? Your results are plotted on a chart called an audiogram. Mandi will explain the degree of any hearing loss (mild, moderate, severe, or profound) and the type of loss (conductive, sensorineural, or mixed). This information is crucial for determining the best treatment plan, such as hearing aids or medical referral.
How often should I have my hearing checked? If you have no current hearing issues, checking every few years is generally recommended. If you have been diagnosed with hearing loss, work in a noisy environment, or wear hearing aids, an annual check-up is typically advised to monitor changes and ensure your devices are optimally programmed.

How do hearing aids work? In brief, hearing aids pick up sound via a microphone, convert it to a digital signal, process/amplify that signal according to your hearing loss profile, and deliver sound via a speaker into your ear canal. They are tuned (programmed) to your unique hearing loss.
Why do hearing aids cost so much? First of all, we proudly offer top manufacturer hearing aids like Oticon Real 1 or Real 2, Phonak Lumity and Starkey Genesis for $2500/pair. It also has warranty and repair service. No every person needs high end expensive hearing aids, but we carry those too if you need them, but we have been in business for 23 years because we honestly fit you with what's best for you and your budget! Second, hearing aids are essentially miniaturized, highly specialized computers equipped with features like sophisticated sound processing, rechargeability, and Bluetooth connectivity. The cost often includes the technology, professional services (fittings, programming, follow-up care), and warranties. Coverage varies widely, as Medicare does not cover hearing aids for adults. We will take care of the insurance process for you!
Will a hearing aid restore my hearing back to normal? No. Hearing aids are sophisticated devices that significantly improve your ability to hear and understand speech by amplifying sounds. However, they do not restore the natural function of your ear. With proper use and adjustment, they can dramatically improve your ability to communicate and participate in daily life.
What types of hearing aids are available? There are several types: behind-the-ear (BTE), in-the-ear (ITE), and canal aids (ITC and CIC). Each style offers different benefits depending on hearing loss severity and ear shape. Contact our Hearing Aid Apprentice, Larry Solat, who has been caring for patients for over 15 years.
Will hearing aids restore my hearing to normal?
Hearing aids cannot restore hearing to normal, but they greatly improve hearing and comprehension in everyday life
Can I sleep with hearing aids in?
It’s recommended to remove them at night so ears can rest. Specialized devices are available for those needing to hear alarms while sleeping.
Is earwax (cerumen) bad, and should I remove it? No, earwax is natural and important! It protects your ear canal from dirt, bacteria, and water. In most people, the wax naturally moves out of the ear on its own. You only need professional removal if the wax is impacted (blocked) and causing symptoms like hearing loss, discomfort, or dizziness.
Should I clean my ears with cotton swabs (Q-tips)? No. What's the quickest way to see Mandi cringe? Tell her you use Qtips! It's a huge no-no! You should never insert cotton swabs or any object into your ear canal. This often pushes wax deeper, which can cause impaction, damage the delicate skin of the ear canal, or even puncture the eardrum. Use a damp washcloth to wipe the outer ear only. Our gentle ear wax removal is perfect for those with wax!
What are the signs of excessive or impacted earwax? The most common signs are a feeling of fullness in the ear, decreased hearing, earache or discomfort, tinnitus (ringing), or a cough caused by the wax stimulating nerves in the ear canal.
How is professional ear wax removal performed? At Audiology Services and Hearing Aids we use safe and gentle methods to remove impacted earwax. We have an "ear camera" to show you where the wax is and how much there is, and then we gently remove it WITHOUT the use of water. A gentle tool or a light suction removes the wax pain free.
Why should I get custom earplugs instead of over-the-counter ones?
Custom earplugs are molded specifically to the unique contours of your ear canal, providing a perfect, secure fit and seal. This ensures superior noise reduction, exceptional comfort for long-term wear, and prevents slippage that is common with generic plugs.
What is the process for getting custom earplugs? The process is quick and painless. Mandi Solat will take a physical impression of your ear canal using a soft, safe silicone material. This impression is then sent to a lab to create your custom-molded plugs. The whole process, from impression to receiving your finished product, typically takes a few weeks.
What is the difference between filtered and solid earplugs? Solid Plugs block out the maximum amount of sound possible and are best for sleeping or high-noise environments like a rifle range or construction jobs. Filtered Plugs (often used by musicians, concert-goers, or motorcyclists) use specialized filters to reduce overall volume without muffling or distorting sound, preserving clarity and speech awareness.
How long do custom earplugs last? With proper care and cleaning, custom earplugs made of medical-grade silicone can last anywhere from 3 to 5 years. It is recommended to replace them after 4-5 years because the shape of your ear canal can change over time, affecting the fit and seal. Visit our page to learn more!
