Do you need a hearing test? If you frequently ask for repetition, struggle in noisy places, or turn up devices, it’s advisable to test. Tinnitus or ear fullness may also signal issues. Adults over 50 should get checked regularly At Audiology Services and Hearing Aids in Lakewood, Colorado, we offer comprehensive tests in a private sound booth.

What should I expect during a hearing test at your Lakewood clinic? A hearing test in Lakewood starts with a review of your history, ear exam, then sound and speech testing in a sound-treated booth. The whole appointment usually takes 30–60 minutes.

How do you explain my hearing test results? Your test results will be shown on an audiogram, which charts the softest sounds you can hear at different frequencies. Dr. Solat will explain whether your hearing is normal, mildly reduced, or more significantly impacted, and whether the type of loss is sensorineural (inner ear), conductive (outer/middle ear), or mixed. This helps us tailor any recommendations, including hearing aids, medical referrals, or monitoring plans.

How often should I get my hearing checked? If you don't currently have hearing symptoms, most adults should have a hearing check every few years to track changes over time. If you already wear hearing aids, work around loud noise, or experience symptoms such as difficulty understanding speech or ringing in your ears, an annual exam is recommended. Regular hearing checks help us ensure your aids are programmed correctly and that your hearing health is well managed. We often have same week scheduling, convenient for those in Lakewood and the Denver Metro area.

Do I need a referral from a doctor? No, at Audiology Services and Hearing Aids in Lakewood, Colorado, you do not need a referral.

Will my insurance plan pay for hearing aids in Denver/Lakewood? Insurance coverage for hearing aids varies widely. Some plans offer partial coverage or discounts, while other may not cover hearing aids at all. At Audiology Services and Hearing Aids, Larry Solat - our Hearing Aid Apprentice with over 15 years of experience reviews your plan benefits and handles insurance research so you don't have to worry about it. We work with most insurance companies and will explain what is covered at your appointment, and we handle the insurance paperwork too!

How do hearing aids help me hear better?  Hearing aids pick up sound with a tiny microphone and convert it into a digital signal. They process and amplify that sound based on your unique hearing needs and deliver it into your ear canal through a speaker. Each device is programmed specifically for your hearing loss pattern to help you understand speech more clearly and participate in daily life.

Why are hearing aids pricey, and what does $2500/pair include? First of all, we proudly offer top manufacturer hearing aids like Oticon Real 1 or Real 2, Phonak Lumity and Starkey Genesis for $2800/pair. Hearing aids are mini computers with advanced sound processing, rechargeable batteries, and features like Bluetooth connectivity. At our office, top brands start $2800 per pair which includes warranty coverage and follow up care. The cost also reflects professional services - comprehensive fittings, programming and ongoing support - that ensure you get the best outcome for your hearing needs.

Can hearing aids make my hearing back to normal? . Hearing aids significantly improve your ability to hear and understand sounds, especially speech, but they do not restore your natural hearing. They amplify sound so you can participate more fully in conversations and daily activities, and with proper adjustments over time, most patients see strong improvements in communication.

What kinds of hearing aids styles are available? There are several types: behind-the-ear (BTE), in-the-ear (ITE), and canal aids (ITC and CIC). Each style offers different benefits depending on hearing loss severity and ear shape. Contact our Hearing Aid Apprentice, Larry Solat, who has been caring for patients for over 15 years.

Should I wear my hearing aids while sleeping?

Most people remove their hearing aids at night so the ears can rest and to prevent moisture or damage. If you need to hear alarms during sleep, we can talk about specialized devices to meet that need.

Is earwax harmful, and when should it be removed?  Earwax (cerumen) protects your ear canal from dirt, bacteria, and moisture and is usually harmless when it clears naturally. Professional removal is only needed when wax becomes impacted and causes symptoms like hearing loss, pressure, discomfort, or dizziness.

Are cotton swabs safe for ear cleaning?  No — you should never insert cotton swabs or objects into the ear canal, as these can push wax deeper, cause impaction, and even injure the eardrum. Instead, wipe the outer ear with a damp cloth. If wax buildup is a problem, professional removal is a safe and comfortable option.

What symptoms suggest I have impacted earwax?  Signs of impacted wax include a feeling of fullness in the ear, decreased hearing, earache or discomfort, ringing (tinnitus), or even a cough triggered by ear canal nerves. If you’re experiencing these, a professional exam can identify and safely remove the buildup.

How do you remove impacted earwax at your clinic?  At Audiology Services and Hearing Aids, we use a small ear camera to show you how much wax is present, then remove it gently without using water. Tools and light suction allow for a comfortable, pain-free experience that many patients describe as much more pleasant than at other clinics.

What’s better about custom earplugs versus store-bought ones?

Custom earplugs are molded to the unique shape of your ear canal, giving you a secure fit, better noise reduction, and superior comfort for long-term wear. Over-the-counter plugs often don’t seal well and slip, reducing their effectiveness.

What happens during a custom earplug appointment? Dr. Mandi Solat takes a soft silicone impression of your ear canal in just a few minutes, which is then sent to a lab to create earplugs made just for you. The entire process is quick and painless, and you’ll have custom ear protection tailored to your needs once the plugs arrive.

Should I choose solid or filtered custom earplugs? Solid earplugs block the most sound and are ideal for sleeping or very loud environments like construction sites or shooting ranges. Filtered earplugs reduce noise evenly so you can still hear conversation and music clearly — great for concerts, travel, or everyday noise reduction.

How long will my custom earplugs work?  With proper care, custom earplugs made of medical-grade silicone can last 3–5 years. Over time, the shape of your ear canal can change, which may affect the fit, so a replacement after about five years is recommended for best performance.

Can I get an appointment soon for hearing tests or earwax removal?  Yes — we typically can see patients the same week they call. Depending on your needs, we’ll schedule you with Dr. Mandi Solat for hearing tests, ear wax removal, or custom earplugs, and with Larry for hearing aid repairs and programming.
