Hearing Tests & Audiology Services FAQ:

How can I tell if I should get a hearing test?  If you frequently ask people to repeat themselves, have trouble understanding conversations in noisy environments like restaurants, or find yourself turning the TV or radio louder than others prefer, a hearing test is a good idea. Ringing in your ears (tinnitus) or a feeling of fullness can also be signs of hearing issues. Adults over 50 are encouraged to get their hearing checked every few years, even if they don't notice symptoms right away. At Audiology Services and Hearing Aids, we offer comprehensive hearing tests in a private sound booth.

What should I expect during a hearing test at your Lakewood clinic?  Your hearing test starts with Dr. Mandi Solat reviewing your medical history and any hearing concerns. She will check your ears and then perform pure-tone and speech tests inside a soundproof booth to measure what you can hear at different pitches and how well you understand speech. Most appointments last 30-60 minutes, and your questions are welcome at any time. After your test, enjoy complimentary coffee, tea, or a snack while we explain your results.

How do you explain my hearing test results?  Your test results will be shown on an audiogram, which charts the softest sounds you can hear at different frequencies. Dr. Solat will explain whether your hearing is normal, mildly reduced, or more significantly impacted, and whether the type of loss is sensorineural (inner ear), conductive (outer/middle ear), or mixed. This helps us tailor any recommendations, including hearing aids, medical referrals, or monitoring plans.

How often should I get my hearing checked? If you don't currently have hearing symptoms, most adults should have a hearing check every few years to track changes over time. If you already wear hearing aids, work around loud noise, or experience symptoms such as difficulty understanding speech or ringing in your ears, an annual exam is recommended. Regular hearing checks help us ensure your aids are programmed correctly and that your hearing health is well managed.
