What’s better about custom earplugs versus store-bought ones?

Custom earplugs are molded to the unique shape of your ear canal, giving you a secure fit, better noise reduction, and superior comfort for long-term wear. Over-the-counter plugs often don’t seal well and slip, reducing their effectiveness.

What happens during a custom earplug appointment? Dr. Mandi Solat takes a soft silicone impression of your ear canal in just a few minutes, which is then sent to a lab to create earplugs made just for you. The entire process is quick and painless, and you’ll have custom ear protection tailored to your needs once the plugs arrive.

Should I choose solid or filtered custom earplugs? Solid earplugs block the most sound and are ideal for sleeping or very loud environments like construction sites or shooting ranges. Filtered earplugs reduce noise evenly so you can still hear conversation and music clearly — great for concerts, travel, or everyday noise reduction.

How long will my custom earplugs work?  With proper care, custom earplugs made of medical-grade silicone can last 3–5 years. Over time, the shape of your ear canal can change, which may affect the fit, so a replacement after about five years is recommended for best performance.

Can I get an appointment soon for hearing tests, custom earplugs or earwax removal?  Yes — we typically can see patients the same week they call. Depending on your needs, we’ll schedule you with Dr. Mandi Solat for hearing tests, ear wax removal, or custom earplugs, and with Larry for hearing aid repairs and programming.
