|The Oticon Hearing Foundation supports non-profit humanitarian initiatives that further the Foundation’s mission to empower people with hearing loss to communicate freely, interact naturally and participate actively.
Our goal is to empower a Community of Caring among credentialed hearing care professionals that enables us to provide access to sustainable hearing care for in-need people and communities.
The Foundation is funded by donations from Oticon, Inc., its parent, the William Demant Holding (WDH) and Oticon-related companies as well as other organizations and individuals.
In partnership with hearing care professionals, we seek to serve, advocate for and empower individuals with all degrees of hearing loss. Together, we aim to increase public awareness and understanding of hearing loss and its impact on quality of life, especially among people in impoverished communities worldwide.
In October of 2016, we participated in the humanitarian mission known as Project H.E.A.V.E.N. (Hearing and Vision Enhancement). The mission serves the needs of impoverished populations in Fiji’s remote, rural communities.
The Oticon Hearing Foundation, working side-by-side with Dr. Kitone Rawalai and his staff from Project H.E.A.V.E.N., arranged a series of daily clinics for the hearing care volunteers to provide screenings for more than 1000 villagers. Overall, 168 hearing aids were fit, over 1000 hearing tests were performed and hundreds of hearing aids and other medical equipment were donated. Our teams and volunteers who participated made this mission incredibly impactful.
“This is an area of the world where they have not had a lot of resources for addressing hearing loss. So to be able to bring hearing to this environment and be able to sustain it – that’s the important thing. It’s one thing to take it there. It’s another thing to teach health care providers and provide them with equipment, so that once we leave they can continue the work.”
To support hearing care professionals in their humanitarian endeavors, the Oticon Hearing Foundation has launched an initiative to help secure donations of gently used Oticon hearing devices.
We’ve designed colorful display boxes, located in select clinics, that invite donations of Oticon hearing devices from hearing care professionals and their patients.
The donated hearing devices will be reconditioned to support international hearing missions to impoverished communities around the world. Through your donations of Oticon hearing devices, you will not only join our Community of Caring, but make a difference in the lives of in-need people.
